Gluteus Medius and Maximus
How-To: uncover a layer of connective tissue and a strand of muscle will show. this is your gluteus maximus. the maximus can be lifted up. the muscle underneath the maximus, which cannot be lifted up is your medius. the medius runs perpendicular to the maximus, and is underneath.
In pigs, the gluteus medius is actually larger than the gluteus maximus (this is the opposite of how it is in humans). The gluetus medius is deep to the gluteus maximus and the tensor fasciae latae.
The gluteus maximus runs perpendicular to the medius.
