Tensor Fasciae Latae
Tensor Fasciae Latae The tensor fascaie latae is a band of muscle that can be lifted up from the top of the thigh and butt area through the top of the knee. It is usually covered in a tough connective tissue, which doesn't have to be removed. Be careful not to rip the tensor fasciae latae, as in the initial stages of dissection it can be easy to mistake for connective tissue. How-To: To isolate, probe away the connective tissue on the top of the thigh, then just dig under until you can find the band, then run the probe up and down until you can lift it completely.
The "tensor" is the muscle. The "fascaie latae" is the name for the fascia (tough connective tissue) which lies over the knee. The tensor actually pulls this sheet, which moves the knee. |
